Kuala Terengganu – TDM Plantation Sdn Bhd , the plantation division of TDM Berhad, has been certified with the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification approved by the European Commission (ISCC EU) effective from March 17, 2021 to March 16, 2022. This recognition is accorded to the company following an independent technical review conducted on the company’s supply chain, operations and greenhouse gas (GHG) calculations by an ISCC registered certification body at TDMP’s South Zone operation units. The results indicate that the company’s sustainability approach complies with the requirements specified in the Renewable Energy Directive (RED), making it the first plantation company in Terengganu to receive the certification.
ISCC EU is a certification system to demonstrate compliance with the legal sustainability requirements specified in the RED, covering the traceability, environmental and social aspects of biomass production. TDMP was audited on February 10 and 11, 2021 and notified about the certification success on March 13, 2021 based on the scope of First Gathering Points (FGP) and Oil Mill (OM). In particular, the company is successful in minimising GHG emission at its South Zone operation units, namely Air Putih Estate, Gajah Mati Estate, Jernih Estate, Pelantoh Estate, Tebak Estate and Kemaman Palm Oil Mill.
Prior to the external auditing, the team went through a few extensive key processes to secure the certification; ISCC Awareness Training, internal audit sessions guided by an external consultant, and ISCC Terms of Use review – all of which required to be completed following the ISCC Principles and guidelines.
Recognising the importance of sustainable development to strengthen the business growth in the long run, the ISCC EU Certification of TDMP means the shareholders can expect more strategic business moves from the company to boost consistent economic growth while promoting social responsibility and environmental stewardship with corporate governance.
In 2013, TDM became the first plantation in Terengganu and among the few elite companies in Malaysia to achieve 100% Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certification which promotes the growth and use of sustainable oil palm through credible global standards and engagement with stakeholders for its estates and mills. On top of that, the company continued making significant moves by getting all of its estates and mills in Terengganu Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) certified. As a result, TDM stands as the first Malaysian Government-Linked Company (GLC) to achieve 100% MSPO certification.
