TDM-YT Plantation, a subsidiary of TDM Berhad, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with JAKS Solar Power Holdings Sdn. Bhd. for the development of the Large-Scale Solar Farm 5 (LSS5) project at Ladang Bukit Bidong, Setiu, Terengganu. The signing was witnessed by YAB Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, Chief Minister of Terengganu; YBM Tengku Seri Bijaya Raja (Dato’ Seri Tengku Farok Hussin Tengku Abdul Jalil), State Secretary of Terengganu and Chairman of TDM; and Chen Jiping, President of China Power Engineering Consulting Group Co., Ltd.
The MOU was signed by Hj Burhanudin Hilmi bin Mohamed @ Harun, President and Group CEO of Terengganu Inc and Chairman of the Board of TDM-YT Plantation, along with Ang Lam Poah, CEO of JAKS Solar Power Holdings Sdn. Bhd., at Wisma Darul Iman.
TDM welcomes this project as a move to reduce reliance on the oil palm plantation sector by generating renewable energy (RE). The RE project will utilize part of the 2,600 hectares of land at Ladang Bukit Bidong for solar panel installations. By shifting to RE, Terengganu aims to reduce dependence on fossil fuel energy sources, thus lowering carbon emissions and minimizing environmental impact.
TDM is optimistic about the future of this solar project and hopes it will not only benefit Terengganu’s economy but also pave the way for a greener and more sustainable future for the next generation.
