TDM Plantation Sdn Bhd (TDMP), the plantation division of TDM Berhad (TDM) through the RELife program upholds the sustainability of nature by planting 1,000 trees of various species along the outskirts of Sungai Tayor. This RELife program was held at Ladang Tayor, Sungai Tong early this afternoon in the presence of YBM Tengku Seri Bijaya Raja Datuk Tengku Farok Hussin Tengku Abdul Jalil, Terengganu State Government Secretary and Chairman of TDM, Haji Najman Kamaruddin, Executive Director of TDM and En. Hamdan Ibrahim, Chief Executive Officer of TDMP.
TDMP chose Ladang Tayor for the RELife program, which is a continuation of the “River of Life” project in the river rejuvenation effort which further promotes the protection, restoration, and sustainable use of rivers in the TDMP farm, with the goal of eventually transforming the river into a tourism and recreation attraction. This planting uses the company’s operational areas that are not suitable for oil palm planting to restore the affected forests along riverbanks and steep slopes.
TDM’s participation in this Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program is extremely important, particularly in terms of achieving the goal of conserving the environment through tree planting activities that can have a positive impact on the environment and its diverse biodiversity. In addition to tree planting, selected fish species were released into the river as part of the program’s launch in caring for and maintaining habitats on land and in water.
This effort is also part of the company’s support for the “Road to 1 Million Trees 2023” campaign, which is being coordinated with the Malaysian Greening Program via the Terengganu State Level 100 Million Tree Planting Campaign. Durian, Petai, Jambu Laut, Mentalum, Ketapang, Bintagor Laut, Salam, Putat and Sentul are among the trees planted to ensure the success of the RELife program.
TDM always takes proactive measures to combat climate change in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) which are goals 13 (Climate Action), 14 (Life Below Water) and 15 (Life on Land). All activities carried out under the RELife Project are in accordance with the RSPO Riverbank Reserve Management and Restoration Guidelines 2018. This effort will help create conservation and biodiversity areas in palm oil plantations thus supporting and contributing to company’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives.
The company always strives to find initiatives to contribute and have a positive impact on the community and surrounding areas for the well-being of future generations. This tree planting activity will be held periodically to maintain the well-being and sustainability of nature.
